Intermediate Accountant – Toronto, Canada

Job Type: Permanent Full-Time
Location: Toronto (In-Person at our Belfield Rd. Office)

We are committed to excellence, collaboration and innovation and we’re looking for an organized and detail-oriented Junior Accounting Assistant to join our Finance Department. The successful candidate will support the Finance Team in maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and ensuring compliance with internal procedures, while delivering exceptional customer service. This role is ideal for someone who is proactive, detail-driven and eager to grow within the field of accounting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with receiving, reviewing, verifying vendor purchase orders and invoice for goods and services
  • Assist in preparing electronic transfers, cheque and wire payments
  • Post transactions to journals, ledgers and other records
  • Reconcile accounts payable transactions, monitor accounts to ensure payments are up to date
  • Assist in researching and resolving invoice discrepancies and issues
  • Help in maintaining updated vendor files and databases
  • Provide support with accounts payable inquiries from internal and external stakeholders
  • Assist with receiving and entering sales orders in the ERP system and checking prices against price lists
  • Help with processing customer invoices, e-mail approved invoices to customers
  • Sort and batch customer purchase orders, shipping documents and invoices
  • Collaborate in entering customer payment receipts in the ERP system, file customer payments
  • Prepare accounts receivable aging reports
  • Prepare special reports and accounting schedules at period-end
  • Assist in providing supporting documentation for audits, grants and government agency reviews
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial closings
  • Analyze variances and prepare supporting documentation for management review
  • Assist with data analytics
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure timely and accurate financial information
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and efficiencies

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting and general ledger processes
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software
  • Working experience using ERP system (e.g. Microsoft Dynamics) and Concur Expense is an asset
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail and accuracy
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with a collaborative approach to problem-solving
