KEY MICRONUTRIENTS FOR BUILDING BUDS:

These essential elements are highly involved in fruit bud integrity and rapid springtime growth through cell division:

Zinc is essential for protein synthesis and maintenance of IAA (auxin) levels; auxin is involved in cell division and elongation in both vegetative and fruit buds. Elevated bud zinc levels are also known to increase winter hardiness and spring cold tolerance via the protective effects of zinc on cell membranes.

Manganese is important for its role in photosynthesis, respiration, and cell elongation.

Copper is a major component of the chloroplast; by ensuring continued carbohydrate supply, copper greatly improves winter hardiness and cold tolerance. Two key aspects of plant disease resistance, lignin and alkaloid production, are influenced by this often-overlooked element.

Boron is essential for flower fertilization and fruit set. Fall-applied foliar boron has been shown to be more effective for fruit set than pre-bloom or bloom applications. Boron's effect on membrane stability leads to efficient mobilization of many molecules within a plant.

Cobalt is a non-essential but beneficial element, blocks the enzymatic production of the plant hormone ethylene, leading to increased shoot growth and bud development.
